FutureMoney helps you work out how your money looks in future. This page explains what it stores, who else can see it, and how to have it removed.
Who is responsible
FutureMoney is run by Drew Loynes as a personal project. For anything on this page, including requests about your data, write to futuremoney@drew.moi.
Using FutureMoney without an account
If you choose “Run locally”, everything you enter stays in your browser’s storage on the device you entered it on. It is not sent to us and we cannot see it. Clearing your browser data deletes it, and there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.
What we store when you sign in
- Your scenarios. The accounts, balances, groups and transactions you enter, together with your display preferences. All of it is typed in by you; FutureMoney never connects to a bank and cannot read your real accounts.
- Your email address and sign-in credentials, which are held by our authentication provider rather than by us. We store only the anonymous user identifier they give us, which is what your scenarios are filed under.
We do not ask for your name, address, date of birth, or any real account or card numbers, and there is nowhere in the app to enter them.
Why we store it
To provide the service you asked for: keeping your scenarios so you can reach them again, and from another device. In data-protection terms, we process this data to perform the service you have asked us to perform. We do not sell it, share it for advertising, or use it to build a profile of you.
Who else handles it
- WorkOS: signing in. They hold your email address and credentials.
- Amazon Web Services: storing your scenarios, in a database in Frankfurt, Germany.
- Vercel: serving the app itself.
- PostHog: counting page views and which features are used, to see what is worth improving. These events deliberately carry no amounts, balances, account names or anything else you typed.
Each of these acts on our instructions and for no other purpose. Nobody else is given your data.
Where it is stored
Your scenarios are stored in Frankfurt. Our other providers may process data outside the UK and EU under the safeguards their own terms provide.
How long we keep it
For as long as your account exists. Deleting your account, from the account page, removes every scenario, account, group and transaction immediately and permanently. There is no backup copy and no recovery, so if you may want the data later, write it down first.
Cookies and other storage
FutureMoney stores three things on your device, and nothing else. Each one is the direct result of something you did, which is why there is no cookie banner asking you to agree to them:
- a cookie that keeps you signed in, set when you sign in and cleared when you sign out;
- a cookie remembering whether you chose light or dark mode;
- in local mode, your scenarios themselves, which never leave your browser and which clearing your browser will delete.
Our analytics store nothing on your device at all. No cookie, no identifier kept between visits, nothing to follow you to another site. The trade is deliberate: it means we cannot tell a returning visitor from a new one, and it is what lets this site ask you to agree to nothing. Nothing here is used for advertising, and none of it is shared with anyone for their own purposes.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Deletion you can do yourself, at any time, from the account page. For anything else write to futuremoney@drew.moi.
Children
FutureMoney is not intended for people under 16, and we do not knowingly store data about them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Continuing to use FutureMoney after a change means the new version applies.
